Connie D. Polston, 64, of Peoria, passed away at 12:52 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Connie was born in Magness, AR on August 8, 1945, a son of Arlie Lee and Lucy Pearl (Street) Polston. He married Carol Ann Moore on July 21, 1967 in Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Polston; and infant daughter, Merri Lynn Polston.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Billy) Parks of Bartonville; sons, Shawn Polston of Bayview Gardens, Travis (Mary Rogers) Polston of Peoria Heights and Aaron (Megan) Polston of Peoria; brothers, Bob, Ronnie and Dennis Polston; sisters, Arlene Brown, Linda Cotrell, Tommie Fore, Janet Weaver, Marva Herring, Sharon Majors and Shirley Triebel; seven grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Connie was the owner/operator of A1 Auto Parts in Peoria. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, serving in the Honor Guard and as a Supply Sergeant, and a former member of the Spring Bay American Legion Post 1115.

He enjoyed buying vehicles; singing; collecting everything, especially antiques; listening to Classic Rock from the 50s though 80s, especially Elvis and Roy Orbison; watching auto racing, especially Jeff Gordon. He especially loved riding his four-wheeler, planting flowers and watching his animals.

Connie was a great dad and was giving, caring and successful at what he did. He started with one junk car, but amassed over forty acres of vehicles in his salvage yard. He loved spending time in his junk yard. He will be remembered as a proud, respectable, smart, giving, likeable and successful man.

Services to celebrate Connie’s life will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria, with Fr. Terry Cassidy officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to services. A private interment will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made in Connie’s memory to the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program or to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, both in Peoria.

It is hard for me to share one great memory. I can think of many...many good ones. I will say this, he was one who made sure you had everything you needed, most of what you wanted, and always, all of his love. He achieved anything that he put his mind to. He had the plan, and Shawn & I to execute it. I have never met a man in 35 years who was as generous as my dad. He helped many people along his journey. He always told us "Whats mine is yours". It occurred to me one day he never worked that hard for his self, but for us. I look back and see he always wanted the best for me. Dad and I may not of agreed on everything, but he taught me to think things through, to care, and do whats right. "Treat people like you want to be treated" he would say. Dad lived a 100 years in 64 years. I love you dad.

Shawn & Trav ... you certainly had a wonderful father! He had a way of turning your rainclouds into sunshine. He was always upbeat, happy, joking around. Half the time I didn't know if he was kidding me or serious. He loved to spend time with you boys and he made our four wheeling trips with all of you much more enjoyable. He truely loved the outdoors, his family, and his friends. We will certainly miss and cherish the good times we had with him. Keep your memories close to your heart. Love you guys.

Connie was the funniest man in the room, always.

Everybody listened to him and waited to laugh. We enjoyed riding fourwheelers with him at the junkyard as much as he did. Shawn and I have so many good memories of Connie. My wife and I will miss him and his singing greatly. Rest in peace.
